I had the pleasure last Saturday night of capturing Mary and Tom’s elopement atop the historic Newburyport Lighthouse. I first met Mary a few years ago when we did her updated Branding Portraits and was so delighted when she reached out to tell me she was getting married and wanted me to photograph it.
My arrival was timed to ascend up into the lighthouse to first capture their intimate ceremony. You have to always get creative with the tiny space up there and since they decided to exchange vows and say their “I dos” inside, I captured it mostly from the outside (first wedding ever where I could not hear a thing and had to pay close attention to the clues while running to and fro around the narrow perimeter and not miss the first kiss!) I love not only playing with all the reflections but also that every single celebration here is unique. There really isn’t a more romantic place on the North Shore to celebrate love.
After their nuptials, we went down to meet with her nieces who had brought their three dogs over to join in the festivities and get some family portraits together too. We walked along the scenic Rail Trail with the views of Plum Island in the distance and then headed back so they could go back up to enjoy their private dinner. Of course made sure to get those last silhouette sunset shots too (Thank you Mother Nature for that stunner!)
