It was a great turnout today at the MA State House in support of legislation to Prevent Farm Animal Cruelty. Boston’s MSPCA and Humane Society organized the “Pups for Pigs” Rally and many supporters brought their own canines who donned adorable little pig costumes showing solidarity for their other four legged pink friends. The Act H.1456/S.741 is written to “prohibit the confinement of farm animals in a manner that does not allow them to turn around freely, lie down, stand up and fully extend their limbs: that means that standard veal crates, gestation crates for pregnant pigs, and battery cages for hens would not be allowed in the Commonwealth.” The bill is sponsored by Representative Jason Lewis. “The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality.”
~ Arthur Schopenhauer The Basis of Morality
“He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.” ~ Immanuel Kant
