Boston Photographer ~ Boston Red Cloaks Rally at MA State House

I believe in the resistance as I believe there can be no light without shadow; or rather, no shadow unless there is also light.”

―Margaret Atwood “The Handmaid’s Tale

I’ve read the book and watched the (brutal) Hulu Series of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” If you haven’t done either, I highly recommend them both. Either way, you most likely know of the dystopian world created by Atwood that was inspired by “biblical passages, the Salem witch trials and American politics in the 1980s.” While her story is fiction, all of the events and things that happened to women in the novel are recorded events in history.

It’s a cautionary tale.

Last Saturday as I headed to the State House for the protest after the leaked SCOTUS draft on Roe vs. Wade, it was a very chilling sight to look down the stairs from Beacon Street and see the Boston Red Cloaks slowing making their way in pairs across the Boston Common. Protesters and speakers then gathered with them on the steps to rally the crowd to fight these injustices to women and humanity. It was a powerful afternoon but honestly I was disappointed at the turnout. I hope this weekend’s rallies around the US organized by the Women’s March yield more promising turnouts.

I know where I will be on Saturday May 14th. Click HERE to find a rally near you!
